Spirulina (SP) Medium

     ( This is a good mixture of chemicals for growing Spirulina Algae )

                     (It was found on the Purdue University Web Site in the biology division )

                                                  PART 1:

                            NaHCO3     27.22 g

                            Na2CO3       8.06 g

                            K2HPO4      1.00 g

                           Distilled water to 500.0 ml

                                                      PART 2:

                               NaNO3       5.00 g

                                K2SO4       2.00 g

                                NaCl           2.00 g

                           MgSO4·7H2O  0.40 g

                           CaCl2·2H2O     0.02 g

                            FeSO4·7H2O    0.02 g

                                EDTA Na2    0.16 g

                                 Micronutrient solution10.0 ml
                                 Vitamin solution 5.00 ml
                                 Distilled water to 500.0 ml

        Autoclave Parts 1 and 2 separately at 15 psi, allow to cool then mix aseptically.

                                  Micronutrient solution:

                                  ZnSO4·7H2O 0.001 g
                                  MnSO4·7H2O 0.002 g
                                  H3BO3 0.010 g
                                  Na2MoO4·2H2O 0.001 g
                                  Co(NO3)2·6H2O 0.001 g
                                  CuSO4·5H2O 0.00005 g
                                  FeSO4·7H2O 0.70 g
                                  EDTANa2 0.80 g

                                  Distilled water to1.0 L
                                  May be stored frozen at -20 C.

                                          Vitamin solution:
                                   Biotin 0.0002 g
                                   Calcium pantothenate0.02 g
                                   Cyanocobalamin 0.004 g
                                   Folic acid 0.0004 g
                                   Inositol 1.00 g
                                   Nicotinic acid 0.02 g
                                   Thiamine HCl 0.10 g
                                   Thymine 0.60 g

                      Distilled water to 1.0 L
                  May be stored frozen at -20 C.
